I have lived in New York City for most of my entire life. The only exceptions when I was stationed in North Carolina and I lived in New Jersey for a couple of years. There is so much hype to this place that it makes me sick. This is a city where exploitation is incredible. Everything from taxes to housing prices to crime. Its rated one of America's safest cities but the climate here is very violent. I should know, I've been a Police Officer for over sixteen years. The attitude that people have here is pure nasty. It seems that many people have a chip on thier shoulder. I retire in four years and I just want to live in a place where there is little crime, people respect each other, house prices are reasonable and life is'nt all about status quo. I read about many other places to live and most seem almost as bad as here. I f anyone reads this and has a suggestion about a good place to live, please. For those who think about coming here without really planning it out and no income or potential for earning a very high salary, save yourself the trouble. I cannot tell you the many times I have encountered people who have come here from all over this country and have fallen on bad times because its so hard to make ends meet. Its a shame, it really is.
